Accountants & Bookkeepers

Google review automation for Australian accountants and bookkeepers

Accounting is a referral profession that has quietly become a search profession. Business owners still ask a mate for a recommendation — and then immediately Google the name to see whether the reviews back it up. If nothing is there, the referral cools.

What your customer receives

After: individual tax return

Hi Robert, it’s Sarah from Horizon Accounting — your return is lodged and everything is squared away. If you found the process straightforward, a short Google review would really help other business owners find us: [link]. Thanks so much.

Typical volume

40–300 lodgements (highly seasonal) per month

If you run a accounting practice, this will sound familiar

  • Hundreds of loyal clients and a Google profile with four reviews
  • Asking clients for reviews feels unprofessional, so it never happens
  • July to October you are drowning and it is the worst possible time to ask
  • Referrals arrive, Google you, see nothing, and go elsewhere
  • Your competitors down the street look more established purely because of review count

Why this works for accountants & bookkeepers specifically

Professional services need a lighter touch than trades, and the tone reflects that. No emoji, no “mate”, no hard sell — a short, courteous, professional message sent after a completed lodgement or advisory meeting. We also default to email over SMS for accounting practices where that suits your client base better, and you approve every template before anything sends.

How customers in your trade actually search

Searches like “accountant [suburb]”, “small business accountant near me”, “tax agent [city]” and “SMSF accountant” carry very high lifetime value. A single business client is worth thousands a year for many years. Practices with visible recent reviews convert referrals at a dramatically higher rate, because the review is what converts a name into a booked meeting.

Risk reversal

The 30-Day Review Guarantee

Send at least 20 eligible customers through the system in your first 30 days. If you don't receive at least 3 new genuine Google reviews in that time, we refund your first month in full.

No retention call, no "let us try one more thing", no partial credit. You email us, we refund you. We've written the full terms in plain English rather than burying them.

What "eligible" means

  • A real customer you actually served in the period
  • A valid Australian mobile number or email address
  • Not previously asked and not on your suppression list
  • Consent captured in line with the Spam Act

We ask for 20 because below that the sample is too small for anyone to draw a fair conclusion — including you.

FAQ

Accountants & Bookkeepers — your questions

Industry-specific answers first, then the ones everyone asks.

Is asking clients for reviews compatible with my professional obligations?

Asking a client for an honest, unincentivised review of your service is standard practice and not restricted by CPA Australia, CA ANZ or IPA codes. What you must not do is offer anything of value in exchange, publish anything misleading, or disclose confidential client information. Our system never incentivises reviews and never reveals client details. If your practice has specific licence conditions, check them.

My clients are sensitive about privacy. Is that handled?

Nothing about a client’s financial affairs ever appears in a message. The request references the engagement type in general terms only — “your return is lodged” — and nothing more. You approve every template.

When should requests go out during tax season?

Immediately after lodgement confirmation, when relief is at its peak. We can also throttle sending volume so you are not generating forty reviews in one week, which looks unnatural.

Do I need a CRM or job management software?

No. Most of our clients run on a phone and a notepad. We give you a Job Complete link you save to your home screen — type the customer’s name and mobile, pick who did the work, hit send. Ten seconds. If you do use ServiceM8, Simpro, Fergus, AroFlo, Tradify or Xero, we can connect it so requests fire automatically when you mark a job complete.

How fast can I be live?

Within one business day of you completing onboarding. We need your business name, your Google Business Profile link, and the first names of your team. We write and test your message templates, send you a live test to your own phone, and switch you on once you approve it.

How does the 30-Day Review Guarantee work?

Send at least 20 eligible customers through the system in your first 30 days. If you do not receive at least 3 new genuine Google reviews in that period, we refund your first month in full. No arguing, no retention call. The full terms are on our Guarantee page and we have deliberately written them in plain English.

Is this legal under Australian spam laws?

Yes, and we take it seriously. Under the Spam Act 2003 you need consent, accurate sender identification and a working unsubscribe. Your customers have an existing business relationship with you, every message clearly identifies your business, and replying STOP unsubscribes them instantly and permanently across all future messages. We will not send to a purchased list.

Does this breach Google’s review policies?

No. Google prohibits incentivised reviews, fake reviews and review gating. We do none of those. Google explicitly permits asking your customers for honest reviews — it is in their own Business Profile guidance. We ask every eligible customer the same way and we never filter by expected sentiment.
